Terms
The agreement between a studio and Studio in Hand.
Last updated November 3, 2026.
Who this is between
This is an agreement between Studio in Hand and the person who signs a studio up — the teacher who runs it. Creating a studio means agreeing to it.
A family never agrees to anything here. They deal with their teacher. Their teacher deals with us.
What the app does
Studio in Hand schedules lessons, keeps records of students and families, produces and sends invoices, records payments, and emails the people a studio chooses to email.
It is software, not a bookkeeper, an accountant or a lawyer. It does the arithmetic a studio asks it to do; the studio decides what to charge, whom to charge, and what to tell the tax authorities.
Your families’ information
A studio decides what to record about its families and students. That information belongs to the studio, not to us. We hold it, keep it safe, and do what the studio asks with it.
By entering somebody’s details, a studio is saying it is entitled to — that the family has given them the information and expects them to keep it. We have no way to check that, and it is the one thing in this agreement a studio has to get right on its own.
A student’s own login can only ever be created by their parent, from inside the parent’s account. Studios cannot create one, and nor can we. The privacy page explains what such a login can and cannot see.
We will not look at a studio’s families or students except when a studio asks us to help with a problem, or where the law requires it.
What a studio pays us
$15.00 a month, or $150.00 a year. A new studio gets a free trial first, and is told the date it ends.
A subscription can be canceled at any time, from inside the app. Canceling stops the next charge; it does not refund the part of a period already used.
If a payment fails, the studio is told and given time to fix it. If it is not fixed, the app stops sending on the studio’s behalf — invoices and reminders stop going out. It never stops recording, and it never deletes anything.
What families pay a studio
A studio that wants to be paid online connects its own Stripe account. A family pays the studio. The money goes to the studio’s bank.
Studio in Hand never holds a studio’s money, never takes a cut of it, and never stands between a family and their teacher. We could not withhold a payment if we wanted to.
Stripe charges the studio for taking a payment — 0.8%, capped at $5.00 for a bank transfer, 2.9% plus 30¢ for a card, at Stripe’s published United States rates. Those are Stripe’s prices and Stripe can change them; the app shows what it believes them to be and checks that against what Stripe actually takes.
Connecting a Stripe account means also agreeing to Stripe’s own terms, with Stripe, about the money itself.
What a studio must not do
Use it to send anything a family has not asked for and would not want. Impersonate anyone. Break the law with it, or help somebody else to. Try to reach another studio’s information, or test whether you can.
Enter a person’s details without being entitled to.
When it is not working
We try to keep the app up and we watch it constantly, but it is not promised to be available at any particular moment and no uptime figure is guaranteed. It runs on other people’s computers, and sometimes they stop.
A studio’s records are backed up, and the backups have been tested by restoring one. A studio can also download everything it has at any time, and we would rather a studio kept its own copy than relied only on ours.
Ending it
A studio can leave whenever it likes. Deleting a studio removes everything of theirs, and cannot be undone — download a copy first.
We can end an account that is doing one of the things listed above, or that has not paid after being asked. Except where somebody is being harmed, we will say so first and give a studio the chance to download its records.
What we are not responsible for
We are responsible for keeping the app running honestly and for keeping a studio’s records safe. We are not responsible for what a studio charges, what it tells its families, whether its lessons happen, or any disagreement between a studio and a family.
Where the law allows a limit, our liability is limited to what the studio paid us in the twelve months before whatever went wrong. Some places do not allow that limit, and where they do not, it does not apply.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and studios are told by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means agreeing to the new version; a studio that does not agree can download its records and leave.
Where this is decided
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, in the United States.
